Yankees on fire
The Yankees come to London on a tear, having swept the Blue Jays earlier in the week and having won nine of their last 10 games. New York is 52-28 on the season, 21-14 on the road and 44-33 with the over. Masahiro Tanaka gets the start today. He is 5-5 on the year with a 3.21 ERA.
New York has one of the best teams in baseball when it comes to both hitting and pitching. Their hitting is putting up 5.59 runs per game while batting .263 as a team. On the mound, the Yankees have a 4.08 team ERA with a 1.27 team WHIP. Gary Sanchez has been leading the team with 23 home runs and 52 RBI while DJ LeMahieu has 16 doubles, 12 home runs and 54 RBI while hitting .336.
Red Sox not at their best
Boston is coming off an 8-7 loss at home to the White Sox on Wednesday and the Red Sox are just 2-3 in their last five games. Boston is 44-38 for the season, 24-18 on the road and 45-34 with the over. The Red Sox are sending Rick Porcello to the mound today. He is 5-7 on the year with a 4.52 ERA.
The Red Sox are a powerful lineup as well, averaging 5.39 runs per game while hitting 2.66 as a squad, but they don’t quite have the same pitching. Boston posts a 4.30 team ERA with a 1.29 WHIP right now. They do lead the league in strikeouts, though, with 837. Xander Bogaerts has been leading the team this season with 27 doubles, 15 home runs and 55 RBI. JD Martinez is adding 16 doubles, 17 home runs and 45 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees are 6-2 in their last eight games following a day off and 21-7 in their last 28 games following a win.
Boston
The Red Sox have won four straight series openers and they are 9-4 in their last 13 against a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The Yankees have won four of five meetings with Boston already this season, though all five games have been in New York. Still, New York has equal, and slightly better, run production to Boston with an edge in pitching as well. Today’s matchup is no different. Tanaka has been pretty strong all year and seems to have shaken out of his small slump from earlier in June. He’s given up just two runs over his last 15 innings. Porcello is coming off a five-run, six-inning outing against a bad Toronto lineup at home. I think his struggles will continue against New York.
MLB Prediction: New York Yankees -135
