Pirates rally past Mets
Pittsburgh overcame a 3-0 deficit at New York on Wednesday, scoring once in the eighth and four times in the ninth for a 5-3 victory. The Pirates won two out of three in the series. Colin Moran went 2-for-4 to help pace the offense. Corey Dickerson went 2-for-4 with a run, while Gregory Polanco was 2-for-3 with a walk plus a run and an RBI. David Freese had a pinch-hit two-run single to spark the comeback. Felipe Vazquez threw two innings of scoreless relief, giving up one hit with two strikeouts to pick up the win.
Padres shut down in Texas
San Diego did not record a hit until the seventh inning off Mike Minor in a 5-2 loss at the Rangers Wednesday night. San Diego has now lost four of five games. Eric Hosmer finished 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Christian Villanueva was 1-for-4 with a double and a run, while Jose Pirela was also 1-for-4 with a run. Austin Hedges added an RBI double in three at-bats. Clayton Richard took the loss as he gave up four earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.
Joe Musgrove (2-3, 4.59 ERA) will take the mound tonight for Pittsburgh, while San Diego has not yet announced its starter which is the reason the odds have been delayed in being released.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The over is 7-2 in the last nine Pirates games versus the NL West. Pittsburgh is 2-6 in its last eight games overall.
San Diego
The Padres are 2-9 in their last 11 games overall. The over is 7-2 in the last nine San Diego home games.
Prediction:
Musgrove came off the disabled list firing on all cylinders, but has since hit a rough spell. The Padres are the antidote for a lot of pitching problems. Whoever the Padres put on the mound tonight, I’m planning to put my faith in Musgrove to sort himself out and be very effective. Take the Pirates here.
