Braves lose home series to Reds
Despite winning the first game of its home series with Cincinnati, Atlanta dropped the last two games including Wednesday’s 6-5 finale. A three-run seventh inning cost the Braves the victory as they blew a 5-3 advantage. Sam Freeman took the loss in relief as he surrendered three earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk in two-thirds of an inning. Nick Markakis went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run to help pace the offense. Kurt Suzuki was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Cardinals’ four-game win streak snapped
St. Louis dropped a 5-1 contest Wednesday night at home to Cleveland as it saw its four-game winning streak come to a close. The Cardinals had won the first two games against the Indians by a combined score of 15-2. Jose Martinez went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in the lone St. Louis run. Matt Carpenter was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Jack Flaherty suffered the loss as he surrendered four earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks over four innings.
Julio Teheran (5-5, 4.52 ERA) will start today for the Braves, while the Cardinals are going with Miles Mikolas (8-2, 2.69).
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 1-9 in their last 10 Friday games. The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Atlanta games overall.
St. Louis
The Cardinals are 7-3 in Mikolas’ last 10 starts. The under is 14-6 in the last 20 St. Louis home games.
Prediction:
Atlanta has an almost identical 23-17 record at home and 22-17 mark on the road, but I can’t trust Teheran here as he isn’t consistent enough for my liking to go in and steal a win here without likely a lot of run support. Mikolas has been very steady for St. Louis and I believe his strong season will continue today with a winning effort.
