Rangers rolling
Texas is one of the hotter teams in the league right now as they have won five straight following a sweep of the Tigers in Detroit. The Rangers are 45-36 on the season, 17-21 on the road and 42-38 with the under. Texas has Lance Lynn getting the start tonight. He is 9-4 on the year with a 4.32 ERA.
The Rangers are one of the league’s better hitting teams as they average 5.52 runs per game while posting a .256 team average. On the mound, the Rangers have just a 4.74 ERA with a 1.43 team WHIP, which ranks in the bottom third of the majors. Hunter Pence has been leading the team with 15 homers and 48 RBI but he is currently on the DL. Joey Gallo has 19 home runs with 44 RBI while Nomar Mazara has 16 doubles, 12 home runs and 46 RBI.
Rays fall in Minnesota
Tampa Bay is coming off a series loss in Minnesota, but the Rays managed to avoid a sweep with a 5-2 win in 18 innings yesterday. Tampa is now 46-35 on the season, 20-18 at home and 42-33 with the under. The Rays have Yonny Chirinos getting the start today. He is 7-3 on the year with a 3.00 ERA.
The Rays have the league’s best team ERA of 3.26 and the third best team WHIP of 1.15. However, their hitting a little to be desired. Tampa averages 4.59 runs per game with a .254 batting average, both of which are more middle of the road. Brandon Lowe has been leading the team with 17 doubles, 15 home runs and 47 RBI while Austin Meadows has 13 doubles, 12 homers and 41 RBI.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 5-1 in their last six road games and 9-4 in their last 13 games on astroturf.
Tampa
The Rays are just 3-7 in their last 10 overall and they have lost four straight series openers.
Prediction:
Tampa had to use eight relievers in Minnesota yesterday and then travel back to Tampa for today’s game. Chirinos is going to have to go deep, which he is capable of. However, he faces a pretty solid Texas lineup that can get hot quickly. At some point, I think the Rangers will take advantage of the worn out Rays bullpen. Lynn can be shaky, but he has consistently gotten deep into games and won’t have to worry about a terribly strong lineup or much of a home-field advantage from the crowd.
MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers +110
