Six-run second propels Red Sox
Boston scored six runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 advantage at Fenway Park against the Angels Wedneday night en route to a 9-6 victory. It was the third win in a row for the Red Sox and second over LA. Mookie Betts was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run at the top of the order. Andrew Benintendi was 1-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and a run. J.D. Martinez finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Eduardo Nunez was 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs. Rafael Devers finished 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Sandy Leon was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Matt Barnes struck out three and walked one in an inning of relief to pick up the win. Craig Kimbrel walked one and struck out two in the ninth to earn his 23rd save.
Kinsler, Maldonado homer in loss
Ian Kinsler hit a solo home run in five at-bats during the loss Wednesday at Boston. Justin Upton and Albert Pujols both went 1-for-4 with a walk and a run to help contribute. Andrelton Simmons was 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Kole Calhoun went 2-for-5 with a run. Martin Maldonado went 1-for-4 with a 3-run homer and a walk. Jose Alvarez gave up two earned runs on two hits plus a walk in an inning of relief to take the loss.
Jaime Barria (5-4, 3.40 ERA) will start today for Los Angeles, while Boston turns to Brian Johnson (1-2, 4.50).
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The over is 7-1-2 in the last 10 Angels road games. Los Angeles is 3-7 in its last 10 games in Boston.
Boston
The under is 8-2-1 in the last 11 Red Sox home games. Boston is 54-26 in its last 80 games overall.
Prediction:
Barria has shown some of his inexperience lately as the 22-year-old has struggled at times in recent starts. Today will be no easy task. And Johnson draws a spot start in a hitter’s park against a lineup that includes Mike Trout among other people. I have to think this will be another shootout with the offenses involved plus the pitching matchup. Both teams also went deep into their bullpens too, so there might be some tired arms thrown into the game today.
