Pirates’ Nova tosses eight scoreless innings vs. Diamondbacks
Ivan Nova was handed a no-decision after tossing eight scoreless innings with eight strikeouts Friday versus the Diamondbacks. He had quite the duel with Patrick Corbin. Nova was very efficient, throwing 90 pitches over his eight frames while yielding just three hits and walking none. The 31-year-old has been on a great roll of late, allowing one earned run or fewer in three straight starts. His ERA is now under 4.00 (3.98 to be exact) for the first time since the end of April. He’ll try to keep it rolling in a favorable matchup against the Mets next week.
Mets’ Wheeler allows four runs in loss to Dodgers
Zack Wheeler surrendered four runs in seven innings of work in Friday’s loss to the Dodgers. Wheeler was moving along great until the sixth inning, when he issued back-to-back walks to begin the frame before giving up a one-out single to Matt Kemp. Cody Bellinger then brought them all home with a massive grand slam. Wheeler fanned seven and walked three in the loss. He hasn’t won a start since April 29, but he’s looked pretty good recently while seeing an uptick in his velocity.
MLB Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Pirates are 1-6 in their last seven games overall and are 3-7 in their last 10 road outings.
New York
The Mets are 15-36 in their last 51 games overall and just 7-21 in their last 28 home games.
Prediction:
The starters in this matchup have been inconsistent so I’m shying away from taking either side. The over, however, is 6-2-1 in Nova’s last nine road starts and is 11-5-2 in Wheeler’s last 18 home outings. Overall, the over is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 27-11-2 in the last 40 meetings between these two clubs at Citi Field.
The Pick: Pirates/Mets over 7.5
