Reds’ Castillo strikes out five in win over Cubs
Luis Castillo picked up his fifth victory of the season on Friday, limiting the Cubs to three runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander whiffed five on the night and only issued one free pass. While he wasn’t at his best, the Reds provided plenty of support for him. All of the damage against Castillo came during a three-run uprising in the fourth inning, capped off by a two-run homer from Kyle Schwarber. Castillo continues to torment fantasy owners with his inconsistency, posting a woeful 5.70 ERA and 1.40 WHIP to go along with his 81/32 K/BB ratio across 83 2/3 innings.
Braves’ Newcomb holds Orioles to one run in last start
Sean Newcomb fired seven innings of one-run ball as part of a no-decision against the Orioles on Friday. His only mistake was a solo homer off the bat of Chris Davis in the fifth inning. Newcomb fanned three and walked a pair while lowering his ERA to 2.59 for the year. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in four out of his last five starts. The control has been better and he’s getting the ball on the ground more often, so we’re witnessing a solid breakthrough here. His next start comes against the Reds at home.

Cincinnati
The Reds are 8-1 in their last nine games overall and are 6-1 in their last seven games following a win.
Atlanta
The Braves are 25-9 in their last 34 games coming off a loss and are 16-5 in their last 21 Game 3 matchups.
Prediction:
The Reds are hot but have not been profitable when Castillo pitches for them. They’re 1-4 in his last five starts overall and 1-4 in his last five road outings when he faces an opponent with a winning record. Meanwhile, the Braves are 8-3 in Newcomb’s last 11 starts and 6-1 in his last seven outings when he faces an opponent with a losing record.
