Latest via Rotoworld: Martinez took a loss after allowing three runs — two earned — in six innings Thursday against the Phillies. Martinez has been way too good this year to deserve a 6-6 record after 15 starts. Twice he’s gotten no-decisions after allowing no runs, once in 7 1/3 innings and once in nine innings, and he’s currently sporting a 2.87 ERA even though the Cardinals have hardly played great defense this year. It took two errors to lead to the unearned run he allowed today.
Walker scattered six hits and three runs over six innings Wednesday in the Diamondbacks’ 16-5 win over the Rockies. He fanned eight hitters and walked four. Walker didn’t have his best stuff but soldiered through for his sixth victory of the year. He served up a solo blast to Mark Reynolds in the second inning while letting two runs come across on a fifth-inning double by Nolan Arenado. All things considered, allowing three runs at Coors Field isn’t a bad outing. The 24-year-old has a favorable matchup coming up against the Phillies on Monday.
