Swanson homers in loss
Atlanta lost by a count of 8-3 Monday night at Chicago to drop to 46-33 overall and 22-16 on the road. Dansby Swanson helped pace the Braves offensively as he finished 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored. Ronald Acuna Jr. went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Nick Markakis ended the contest 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Julio Teheran suffered the loss as he allowed seven earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and three walks over four innings. Max Fried draws the start tonight for Atlanta as he enters with an 8-3 record, 4.03 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with 76 strikeouts over 82 2/3 innings.
Contreras, Lester lead Cubs
Chicago posted an 8-3 victory Monday night at home over Atlanta to improve to 43-35 overall and 28-14 at home. Willson Contreras led the Cubs offense as he ended the contest 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Jason Heyward went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double. Javier Baez was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jon Lester picked up the win as he allowed two unearned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Adbert Alzolay will start tonight for Chicago as he gave up one earned run on one hit with five strikeouts and two walks over four innings in his MLB debut during a 7-4 home victory over the Mets on June 20.
MLB Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Braves are 4-1 in their last five games versus the NL Central. Atlanta is 13-4 in its last 17 games overall.
Chicago
The Cubs are 10-4 in their last 14 home games. Chicago is 7-3 in its last 10 Tuesday games.
Prediction:
Alzolay comes in highly hyped and was very good in his MLB debut, but he is still a rookie and faces a strong Chicago offense today. With Alzolay perhaps only going four or five innings, the Braves will also have the opportunity to get to the Chicago bullpen. Fried has had his strong moments this season and often gets a lot of run support. Atlanta will be charged up tonight after last night’s bench-clearing incident. I think the Braves even the series at a game apiece.
