Nationals’ Gonzalez allows two runs in loss to Orioles
Gio Gonzalez surrendered two runs in four innings and took a loss against the Orioles on Wednesday. He served up a two-run homer to Mark Trumbo in the second inning and that was all it took for the loss. The game was interrupted by a long rain delay after the fourth inning and that was why Gonzalez’ outing was so short. He falls to 6-4 with a nice 3.08 ERA and less-attractive 1.35 WHIP in 15 starts. He has 80 strikeouts and 34 walks in 84 2/3 innings.
Rays’ Snell goes seven innings in win over Astros
Blake Snell worked around seven walks to limit the Astros to one run in seven innings for a win Tuesday. One of the walks was intentional. Despite all of the free passes, Snell threw just 102 pitches in seven innings. Justin Verlander, who also allowed only one run, needed 122 pitches to get through 6 2/3. Snell moved to 9-4 with a 2.48 ERA.
