The Arizona Diamondbacks are red-hot but they’ll open a new series against a Miami Marlins team that had a successful weekend in Colorado. Are the D-Backs a good play on Monday night when Shelby Miller returns to the hill?

Diamondbacks’ Miller set for return on Monday night
Steve Gilbert of MLB.com confirms Shelby Miller (elbow) will start Monday against the Marlins. This was always the expected outcome, though Miller’s presence in the Diamondbacks’ clubhouse on Thursday made it official. It will be his first big league start in 14 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery last April. The 27-year-old has been up-and-down during his minor league rehab, delivering a mediocre 4.66 ERA over four starts for High-A Visalia and Double-A Jackson. Miller logged 81 pitches in his last outing and should see close to a full workload on Monday.
Marlins’ Straily ejected in last start vs. Giants
Dan Straily was ejected from Tuesday’s game against the Giants after hitting Buster Posey with a pitch in the bottom of the second inning. This came a half-inning after Lewis Brinson got plunked. Straily broke Evan Longoria’s hand with a pitch last week, and Brinson was buzzed by a Hunter Strickland pitch on Monday night. The bad blood continues to grow between these two teams. Straily wound up being charged with four earned runs over 1 1/3 innings as his season ERA jumped from 4.23 to 4.89.
MLB Betting Trends
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 4-0 in their last four games versus the Marlins.
Miami
The Marlins are 6-1 in their last seven games against the Diamondbacks in Miami.
Prediction:
We don’t know what to expect out of Miller but I’m fading the Marlins anyway. Miami is 0-5 in Straily’s last five starts, is 0-6 in his last six outings versus the National League West, and is 1-4 in his last five starts coming off five days of rest. The Diamondbacks have won eight of their last nine games on the road and are 5-1 in their last six games overall. I’ll lay the small money line price.
The Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks -132
