Franco perfect at plate
It hasn’t been a great season at the plate for Philadelphia third baseman Maikel Franco, but he was on his game Saturday afternoon by going 4-for-4 with a double plus two runs and an RBI. Carlos Santana contributed a solo home run as the Phillies took control late in the 5-3 victory at the Nats. Scott Kingery was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs. Aaron Nola picked up the win as he gave up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Seranthony Dominguez earned his fourth save as he struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning.
Rendon leads effort in loss
Washington third baseman Anthony Rendon was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Saturday’s defeat. It was his eighth homer of the season. Daniel Murphy finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Erick Fedde suffered the loss as he gave up three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and two walks over six innings.
Nick Pivetta (4-6, 4.08 ERA) will take the mound tonight for Philly, while the Nationals counter with Jefry Rodriguez (0-0, 4.66).
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The over is 8-1 in the last nine Philadelphia games following a win. Philadelphia is 4-0 in its last four during a game three of a series.
Washington
The Nationals are 13-4 in their last 17 after losing the first two games of a series. Washington is 2-7 in its last nine games overall.
Prediction:
Philadelphia dominated the opener of the series 12-2 before taking control late yesterday. With Pivetta on the mound, I like the Phillies’ chances here. While Pivetta can be inconsistent, he’s shown the ability to get MLB hitters out and capable of big starts. Rodriguez has plenty of potential, but right now he is a raw pitcher who could be prone to struggles tonight against a Philly offense that has heated up over the last week-plus. I’m taking Philadelphia to sweep in this spot.
