Orioles’ Hess can’t get through five vs. Nationals
David Hess started strong but hit a wall Tuesday, allowing five runs over just 4 2/3 innings in the Orioles’ loss to the Nationals. Hess yielded just a solo home run and one walk through the first four frames, but things quickly fell apart in the fifth. He permitted four hits, two walks and four runs to eight hitters before finally being pulled. Hess has now posted two straight clunkers and can’t be trusted in fantasy leagues, especially since he’s not missing bats. He’s lined up to face the Braves on Sunday.
Braves’ McCarthy allows two runs in no-decision vs. Padres
Brandon McCarthy yielded two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Padres on Friday. McCarthy gave up a two-run homer to Jose Pirela in the first inning, but he settled down from there and kept the Braves in the game. The bullpen eventually let it get away. The veteran right-hander fanned four and walked one and now holds a 4.89 ERA and 60/21 K/BB ratio in 73 2/3 innings across 14 starts this season. The Braves have more starters than rotation spots, so something is going to have to give in this situation soon.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles have dropped four straight Hess starts and four straight Hess outings when he faces an opponent with a winning record.
Atlanta
The Braves are winless in McCarthy’s last four starts and are 1-4 in his last five home outings as well.
Prediction:
This would be the spot to back the Braves seeing as how it’s unlikly they’ll be swept at home by a bad Orioles team. That said, Baltimore has played better ball over the past week and I’m going to take a shot with the O’s again. The Orioles are a perfect 7-0 in their last seven games versus the Braves and are 4-0 in their last four games played at Atlanta. They provide bettors with some massive value.
The Pick: Baltimore Orioles +170
