Rangers’ Gallardo shaky in no-decision vs. Rockies
Yovani Gallardo allowed five earned runs, six hits and three walks with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Rockies. Gallardo threw just 55 of his 98 pitches for strikes, including first-pitch strikes to 16 of the 24 batters he faced. It was Gallardo’s first start since coming over from the Reds. He just hasn’t been very effective in his four appearances this season, turning in just three scoreless frames in 7 1/3 scoreless innings. He is tentatively penciled in for Saturday afternoon in Minnesota but he has a long way to go before fantasy owners can trust him again.
Twins’ Odorizzi struggles with control in loss to Indians
Jake Odorizzi gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings in a loss to the Indians on Sunday. Odorizzi struggled with his command again, making it back-to-back starts that he walked four hitters in just 10 innings. While not immune to walks over his career, he’s generally around the strike zone, so we can hope that this is just a blip on the radar for the former Tampa Bay starter. He now has his ERA up to 4.38 on the season, with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 78/35 over 77 innings. Odorizzi will be back on the mound on Saturday for a contest against the Rangers.
MLB Betting Trends
Texas
The Rangers are 6-0 in their last six games and are 4-0 in their last four road games.
Minnesota
The Twins have dropped five of their last seven games when facing a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
I’m rolling the dice on a Rangers team that has played good ball over the past week. They’re 4-0 in Gallardo’s last four starts and 5-0 in his last five road outings. On the other side, the Twins are just 1-4 in Odorizzi’s last five starts and have dropped eight of their last nine games against the American League West.
The Pick: Texas Rangers +130
