Herrera continues home run tear
Philadelphia dominated to the tune of a 12-2 win at the Nationals on Friday night. The Phillies scored exactly two runs in four of the first six innings to take an 8-2 advantage and then scored three in the eighth plus one in the ninth for good measure. Odubel Herrera homered for the fifth straight game and the sixth time in the last seven contests, his 13th of the season. He finished 4-for-5 with the homer, four runs scored and two RBIs. Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-5 with a walk and two runs. Rhys Hoskins was 1-for-4 with two walks and two runs. Carlos Santana ended the night 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks, three runs and four RBIs. Nick Williams was 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs. Andrew Knapp finished 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Zach Eflin allowed two earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and a walk over five innings to earn the win.
Roark hit hard again
Tanner Roark saw his ERA balloon to 4.27 as he surrendered six earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over 4 1/3 innings to get saddled with the loss. Bryce Harper was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Trea Turner was also 1-for-3 with a walk. Michael Taylor and Wilmer Difo each had an RBI double.
Nola (8-1, 2.55 ERA) will start today for the Phillies, while Erick Fedde (0-2, 5.63) is going to be on the mound for the Nats.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The over is 8-2 in the last 10 Phillies games overall. The under is 5-2-1 in the last eight Philadelphia games on a Saturday.
Washington
The Nationals are 39-20 in the last 59 meetings overall. The under is 19-8 in the last 27 Washington games overall.
Prediction:
Philadelphia thoroughly embarrassed the Nationals last night and now gets to face Fedde, who is a top pitching prospect for Washington but still unproven at the MLB level. With Nola on the mound, the Nats offense is likely to struggle again as they can’t seem to get over the hump. I’m taking the Phillies as the small road favorite here.
