From Rotoworld: Freeland yielded just one run in six solid frames to earn a 5-1 victory over the Giants on Saturday. He wasn’t dominant but he got the job done without much drama at Coors Field. He allowed eight hits total — seven singles and one double. He whiffed three batters and issued two free passes. The 24-year-old rookie has not been phased by the high-altitude hitters’ paradise yet. He improves to 8-4 with a 3.42 ERA and 1.41 WHIP through 14 starts. He survives by keeping the ball on the ground and out of the bleachers. He has 50 strikeouts and 32 walks in 81 2/3 innings.
Wood pitched eight innings and allowed just one run Friday in the Dodgers’ 3-1 victory over the Reds. Wood needed just 89 pitches to get through eight, but between his durability issues and Kenley Jansen’s presence in the pen, there wasn’t any good reason to send the lefty out to go for the complete game. Wood improved to 7-0 with a 1.90 ERA. He’s always had good stuff, but improved control has helped this year; he’s gone back-to-back outings without a base on balls and he’s walked more than two just once this season.
