Yankees’ Sabathia allows three runs on 10 hits in loss to Rays
CC Sabathia yielded three earned runs on 10 hits over 7 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Rays. Sabathia struck out 10 batters and worked deeper than in any other one of his previous starts this year, but the Yankees’ offense gave him just one run of support. The veteran left-hander now stands 4-2 on the year with a 3.30 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 57/19 K/BB ratio in 71 innings this season. Up next is a rematch with Tampa Bay.
Rays’ Stanek shuts down Blue Jays for two innings
Ryne Stanek performed admirably as the Rays’ opener on Tuesday, retiring all six batters that he faced over two shutout innings. Stanek struck out three in the process. He then turned the ball over to Austin Pruitt for 2 2/3 frames before giving way to the rest of the Rays’ bullpen. The 26-year-old had done a terrific job this season, posting a 2.76 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 21/9 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Yankees have won five of their last six games against the Rays.
Tampa Bay
The Rays have lost four of Stanek’s last five starts and are 2-5 in their last seven games overall.
Prediction:
During a stretch in May, Sabathia allowed at least four runs in four straight outings. Since that point, he has settled down. In his last three outings, he permitted just five earned runs in 20 1/3 innings while striking out 19 with just five walks. If he does what he did against the Rays at Yankee Stadium last Sunday (7 2/3 innings, 10 strikeouts), then I like the Yankees chances of winning in a rout.
The Pick: New York Yankees -165
