Dodgers’ Wood gets back on track in last start vs. Giants
Alex Wood got back on the right track Saturday, limiting the Giants to one run over 5 2/3 innings in a win. Wood didn’t allow a hit until the top of the fifth inning, and he finished with four hits allowed, two walks and two strikeouts in the win. It was a much-needed one for the lefty, who had struggled in his previous three starts heading into the game. Wood improved to 2-5 with a 4.22 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with the victory, and a struggling Mets team offers the possibility of another soft landing for Wood when the sides meet Friday.
Mets’ Wheeler solid in road start vs. Diamondbacks
Zack Wheeler allowed two earned runs, three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Sunday in Arizona. Wheeler threw 62 of his 97 pitches for strikes, including 14 first-pitch strikes to the 22 batters he faced. The right-hander had a very tough stretch from late April to late May, but he has started to piece things together quite nicely. Wheeler has quality starts in three of his four outings in June although he remains winless in nine straight outings dating back to April 29. He’ll look to snap his winless skid Friday against Alex Wood and the visiting Dodgers.
MLB Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 10-1 in their last 11 games versus the Mets overall and are a perfect 5-0 in their last five games played at Citi Field.
New York
The Mets are 7-19 in their last 26 home games and are 1-8 in Wheeler’s last nine starts.
Prediction:
Despite what the trends say above, I do see some value in the underdog Mets. The Dodgers are 1-4 in Wood’s last five starts when coming off five days of rest in between and are 1-4 in his last five road outings when he faces a team with a losing record. The Dodgers are also just 1-4 in their last five road games versus a team with a losing record and are winless in their last four road contests versus a team with a home winning percentage of less than .400.
The Pick: New York Mets +135
