Rockies notch another win
Colorado prevailed 6-4 on the road Wednesday night at Arizona to improve to 39-34 overall and 17-19 on the road. Daniel Murphy helped pace the offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Ryan McMahon went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBIs. David Dahl ended the contest 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Jon Gray picked up the win as he allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Wade Davis earned the save as he allowed one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks over one inning. Jeff Hoffman starts today for the Rockies as he enters with a 1-3 record, 7.04 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 31 strikeouts over 30 2/3 innings.
Cron homers in loss
Arizona lost by a 6-4 score Wednesday night at home to drop to 38-37 overall and 14-18 at home. Kevin Cron helped lead the D-Backs offense as he went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit solo home run. Ketel Marte finished 3-for-5 with a stolen base. Christian Walker ended the game 2-for-4 and scored a run. Zack Greinke suffered the loss as he gave up five earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Robbie Ray draws the start today for Arizona as he comes in with a 5-4 record, 3.83 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 106 strikeouts over 82 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 16-7 in their last 23 games overall. Colorado is 3-7 in the last 10 Hoffman starts.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games. Arizona is 1-4 in its last five home games.
Prediction:
The pitching matchup here sides with the Diamondbacks, but Hoffman does have a good strikeout rate and has plenty of potential even if he hasn’t tapped into it yet. Ray can occasionally be erratic and the Rockies’ offense has been hot, even away from home. Colorado also hits lefties quite well. Arizona could be starting to regress and I’m going to bank on that here.
