White Sox take opener
The White Sox took the opening game of this series on Tuesday night, earning a 3-1 victory. Chicago is 35-36 on the season, 15-19 on the road and 36-34 with the under. The Sox are sending Lucas Gilito to the mound today. He is 10-1 on the season with a 2.22 ERA.
The White Sox put up two runs in the ninth inning to break a 1-1 tie and get the victory on Tuesday night. Eloy Jimenez had a two-run home run in the ninth to spark the win. Both James McCann and Leury Garcia each had two hits in the victory. Ivan Nova got the start, allowing just one run over five innings while the bullpen pitched four scoreless innings. Evan Marshall got the win in relief while Alex Colome earned his 15th save of the season.
Cubs in a funk
Chicago is coming off the 3-1 loss on Tuesday and they have lost four of their last five games. Over the five games, Chicago has scored just 11 runs. The Cubs are now 39-33 on the season, 24-12 at home and 37-34 with the over. Chicago has Jon Lester taking the mound this evening. He is 5-5 on the season with a 4.08 ERA.
Chicago’s hitting let it down again as Cole Hamels pitched seven strong innings and allowed just one run in his start. Pedro Strop suffered the loss in relief, giving up two runs while record just one out in the ninth. Kris Bryant had three hits at the plate to lead Chicago while Jason Heyward had a pair of hits.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago White Sox
The White Sox have won Giolito’s last six road starts, but they are 5-21 in their last 26 interleague road games.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are 6-1 in Lester’s last seven interleague starts and 22-4 in Lester’s last 26 home starts against a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
Lester has been struggling as of late. He has given up at least four earned runs in five of his last six starts. Giolito has been rolling this season. The White Sox have won his last nine starts and he has given up just one earned run or less in eight of his last 10 starts. He has actually been stronger on the road, posting a 1.48 ERA over six starts. Given the Cubs’ struggles at the plate, I am going to go with the White Sox to pick up another road win.
MLB Prediction: Chicago White Sox +130
