Nimmo continues stellar season
While the Mets offense has struggled a lot this season, outfielder Brandon Nimmo continues to surprise. From the leadoff spot, Nimmo went 2-for-6 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs. He now has 12 home runs this year. Asdrubal Cabrera ended the day 2-for-6 with a run. Michael Conforto was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a stolen base and two runs. Devin Mesoraco was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two runs. Jose Bautista walked three times, scored a run and drove in two. Jacob deGrom led New York to a win for only the third time in his last 12 starts as he finally received some run support in the 12-2 victory. In eight innings of work, deGrom gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. His ERA dropped to a sizzling 1.51.
Parra has multi-hit day
Colorado didn’t do much offensively Monday, but Gerardo Parra did go 2-for-4 at the dish with a double, a run and an RBI. Carlos Gonzalez finished 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Tyler Anderson suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over 5 1/3 innings.
Jason Vargas (2-5, 7.39 ERA) will start today for New York, while Colorado turns to German Marquez (4-7, 5.13).
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The under is 9-3-1 in the last 13 Mets games overall. New York is 7-20 in its last 20 Tuesday games.
Colorado
The Rockies are 0-8 in their last eight home games. The over is 11-1 in the last 12 Colorado games following a loss.
Prediction:
I can’t see Vargas having any success at Coors Field, particularly against lefty killer Nolan Arenado. While Marquez is going through a rough patch, he’s shown capability in the past as a young starter who can navigate through a start in the thin air. The Rockies are desperate for a win in front of the home fans and I believe it happens here against a mediocre Mets team due for a loww.
