Braves’ Soroka allows just one hit in return from DL
Michael Soroka gave up just one hit over 6 1/3 shutout innings Wednesday in Atlanta’s 2-0 win over the Mets. He struck out four and walked one while throwing 44 of his 77 pitches for strikes. Soroka took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but lost it on an infield single by Michael Conforto. Conforto advanced to second on a wild pitch but Soroka was able to settle down, fanning Todd Frazier before getting the hook from manager Brian Snitker. The 20-year-old from Calgary was on a strict pitch count coming off a month-long shoulder injury. Soroka should be able to go deeper in his next start Tuesday at Toronto.
Blue Jays’ Garcia struggles again in loss to Rays
Jaime Garcia struggled once again in Tuesday’s loss to the Rays, giving up four runs on four hits in his five-plus innings of work. The veteran left-hander also issued four free passes while striking out four on the night. Wilson Ramos tagged him for a two-run homer in the third inning, then he allowed the first two runners to reach in the sixth, both of which came around to score after he departed. Garcia will carry a gruesome 5.71 ERA and 1.56 WHIP into Tuesday’s matchup against the Braves. He shouldn’t be anywhere near fantasy lineups at the moment.
