Rays muster only two hits
Tampa Bay lost 3-0 Friday night at the Yankees as it only registered two hits in the contest. Austin Meadows paced the offense as he ended the contest 1-for-3 plus a walk. Willy Adames was also 1-for-3. Yonny Chirinos took the loss as he allowed three earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts and one walk over six innings. Ryne Stanek will be the opener for the Rays tonight as he comes in with an 0-1 record, 2.45 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 43 strikeouts over 40 1/3 innings.
Tanaka spins gem
Masahiro Tanaka threw a two-hit complete-game shutout last night as host New York downed Tampa Bay by a count of 3-0. He struck out 10 and walked one on 111 pitches over nine innings. Cameron Maybin paced the Yankees offense as he went 3-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored. D.J. LeMahieu finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Luke Voit was 1-for-3 plus a walk. J.A. Happ starts tonight for New York as he enters with a 6-3 record, 4.66 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 61 strikeouts over 75 1/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 5-2 in their last seven road games. Tampa Bay is 19-8 in the last 27 Stanek starts.
New York
The Yankees are 36-17 in their last 53 games. New York is 4-1 in the last five Happ home starts.
Prediction:
New York got a key win to open the series and now have a shot to widen the gap to 2.5 games tonight. But the Rays won’t make it easy as Happ is home run prone and Stanek opening a game usually makes opposing hitters uncomfortable right off the bat. While the Yankees offense is loaded, Tampa Bay has a strong pitching staff and I think it gets the job done here.
