Dodgers’ Maeda merely so-so in no-decision vs. Rangers
Kenta Maeda allowed two earned runs, five hits and three walks with a strikeout over five innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Rangers. Maeda wasn’t terribly sharp, but one of his walks were of the intentional variety. He did hit a batter with a pitch, and he threw first-pitch strikes to just 14 of the 23 batters he faced. Maeda has managed quality starts in just two of his past seven outings. He’ll look for better results Monday, but it’s a tall order working against the Rockies in the rarefied air of Coors Field.
Cubs’ Chatwood allows three runs in no-decision vs. Brewers
Tyler Chatwood pitched decently in a no-decision against the Brewers on Tuesday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits across his five innings. The most important thing though, given Chatwood’s command issues from his previous three starts, is that he issued just two walks in the game while striking out five. Travis Shaw was responsible for all of the damage against him, with a pair of two-run doubles. The right-hander still owns an awful 1.75 WHIP to go with his 3.98 ERA on the season. He’ll look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Dodgers on Monday.
