Rays hold off Angels
Tampa Bay earned a 6-5 home victory Sunday afternoon over Los Angeles to improve to 43-28 overall and 20-18 at home. Tommy Pham helped pace the Rays offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Brandon Lowe went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs. Yandy Diaz was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. The Rays gave up two runs in the top of the ninth but ultimately held on. Colin Poche picked up the win in relief as he threw two spotless innings with three strikeouts. Diego Castillo earned the save as he allowed two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout and no walks in one inning. Yonny Chirinos will start tonight for the Rays as he enters with a 7-2 record, 2.88 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 62 strikeouts over 75 innings.
Yankees salvage sweep
New York picked up a 10-3 victory at the White Sox Sunday afternoon to take two out of four games in the series. Brett Gardner helped lead the Yankees offense as he went 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Austin Romine finished 2-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Gleyber Torres went 0-for-2 but drew three walks and scored three runs. Cameron Maybin was 2-for-5 with a solo home run. James Paxton picked up the win as he allowed two earned runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over six innings of work. Masahiro Tanaka will start tonight for New York as he comes in with a 4-5 record, 3.58 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 74 strikeouts over 83 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Tampa Bay
The Rays are 22-4 in their last 26 Monday games. Tampa Bay is 6-1 in its last seven games versus the AL East.
New York
The Yankees are 4-0 in their last four Monday games. New York is 6-2 in the last eight Tanaka home starts versus the Rays.
Prediction:
This should be a fun series as they battle for first place. Chirinos is pitching with a ton of confidence right now and looks to be opening games now rather than coming in as the bulk reliever. While Tanaka is also pitching well, he’s been prone to the home run ball in his career. I don’t know why the Rays play so extremely well on Mondays, but I’m going to ride it here as they are a team that comes into every game with a focus and a plan of attack against the opposing pitcher.
