Rockies’ Gray strikes out 10 but allows four runs to Phillies
Jon Gray fanned 10 batters but also allowed four runs over six frames in the Rockies’ loss to the Phillies on Tuesday. Things got off to a rotten start for Gray, who issued a pair of walks in the first inning and then served up a two-out, three-run home run to Scott Kingery. Kingery drove in another run in the third. Gray finished strong, striking out six of the final seven batters he faced, but by then it was too late. The big righty now has three double-digit strikeout games this season and 91 whiffs over 76 frames, but he also holds a 5.68 ERA and 1.49 WHIP.
Rangers to call up Gallardo to face Rockies on Sunday
Yovani Gallardo will be called up to start for the Rangers on Sunday against the Rockies. Gallardo could have opted out of his minor league contract with Texas on Friday, so the team essentially had to assure him that he would be added to the major league roster at some point soon. The veteran right-hander holds a 3.81 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 40/14 K/BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings (10 starts) this season at Triple-A Round Rock. He could have some deep-league streaming appeal in the right matchups.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 2-6 in their last eight games versus the Rangers
Texas
The Rangers are just 1-7 in their last eight games but are 8-2 in Gallardo’s last 10 starts.
Prediction:
Both of these teams are in 3-7 slumps over their last 10 games but I like the Rockies’ chances this afternoon. The Rangers are 10-26 in their last 36 home games versus a right-handed starter and are 8-21 in their last 29 games following a win. The Rockies, meanwhile, have won eight of their last 11 interleague road games versus a right-handed starter and are 4-1 in Gray’s last five starts when their opponent scores five runs or more in its previous contest.
The Pick: Colorado Rockies -114
