Marlins’ Chen allows four runs in no-decision vs. Giants
Wei-Yin Chen gave up four runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday in a no-decision against the Marlins. Chen allowed one run through four before an ugly three-run fifth in which he issued back-to-back intentional walks, the second coming after a run-scoring balk. Chen’s ERA stands at 6.13. The Marlins will probably keep him in the rotation, but things don’t figure to get much better.
Orioles’ Cobb crushed for nine runs in loss vs. Blue Jays
Alex Cobb was roughed up for nine runs in 3 2/3 innings in a blowout loss to the Blue Jays on Sunday. Cobb was excellent in his start against the Mets on Thursday. That would not be an accurate descriptor for his effort against the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. He allowed 11 hits — two of them homers — and he also walked one for “good” measure. The rough outing now has Cobb’s ERA sitting at 7.23, and his 1.77 WHIP isn’t much prettier. He’ll try and lower both when he faces Miami at home on Saturday.
MLB Betting Trends
Miami
The Marlins are now 13-3 in their last 16 games versus the Orioles and are 4-1 in their last five games played at Camden Yards.
Baltimore
The Orioles have lost nine of Cobb’s last 11 starts and are 0-8 in their last eight interlegaue home games.
Prediction:
I whiffed badly on the over last night as the two teams combined for only two Miami runs but I’m going back to the well again today, especially with Cobb on the mound. The over is still 4-1 in the last five meetings between these two teams when the game is played in Baltimore and is 5-1 in Cobb’s last six starts versus a team with a losing record. This pitching matchup should lead to more fireworks for bettors this afternoon than the game produced Friday night.
The Pick: Marlins/Orioles over 9.5
