Rockies’ Freeland strikes out eight in loss vs. Diamondbacks
Kyle Freeland allowed four earned runs, four hits and four walks with eight strikeouts over eight innings in a loss against the Diamondbacks on Sunday. Freeland threw first-pitch strikes to just 16 of the 26 batters he faced, fighting all day long. His ERA has inched up in each of his past four outings and his four walks marked a season worst. While he hasn’t had a quality start since May 18 in San Francisco, he is still giving his fantasy owners plenty of strikeouts. He’ll try to get back on track Saturday in Texas.
Rangers’ Minor records quality start against Astros
Mike Minor allowed three runs over six innings in a no-decision Saturday against the Astros. Minor yielded six hits and a walk while striking out four, and he left with the game tied at 3-3 to deprive him from factoring in the decision. That aside, the start was his best in more than a month, the first quality start he’s registered since May 3. In 12 starts on the year, the 30-year-old southpaw has a 5.65 ERA and 1.33 WHIP for the Texas club. That’s disappointing, given how successful he was as a reliever last year with the Royals. Minor has another tough test on tap when the Rockies visit Arlington next Saturday.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 2-5 in their last seven games versus the Rangers despite rallying to beat Texas 9-5 on Friday night.
Texas
The Rangers are 0-5 in their last five home games following last night’s loss. They’re also just 1-5 in Minor’s last six outings.
Prediction:
I took a gamble with the under last night and it backfired badly, as the Rangers scored five runs in the first inning and the Rockies responded with six runs in the top of the second. Nevertheless, I’ll be taking that gamble again this afternoon. The under is 4-1 in Freeland’s last five road starts, is 27-11-3 in his last 41 outings overall and is 5-0 in the Rangers last five games played on Saturday. With the total dropping from 10.5 down to 9.5, I feel as though I’ll be on the right side of this one after striking out horribly last night.
The Pick: Rockies/Rangers under 9.5
