Rockies’ Bettis serves up three home runs to Diamondbacks
Chad Bettis allowed five runs on five hits — including three home runs — over four innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks. Bettis gave up two homers to usual suspect Paul Goldschmidt and a less-expected jack to light-hitting Nick Ahmed among his five hits allowed. On the bright side, he did strike out six while walking just two and, because the Rockies provided him ample run support, Bettis didn’t take the loss despite the poor results. Not factoring in the decision means Bettis remains 4-1 and hasn’t won or lost a game in more than a month. The 29-year-old will carry a 4.40 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into an interleague tilt with the Rangers on Friday.
Rangers’ Mendez will start against Rockies
Yohander Mendez will start on Friday for the Rangers against the Rockies. Mendez is going to take Matt Moore’s spot, as Moore is going to be moved to the bullpen. Once considered one of the best prospects in the system, Mendez is now more organizational depth, and he owns a 5.26 ERA and 40/23 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 51 innings with Triple-A Round Rock this season.
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The Rockies are 5-2 in Bettis’ last seven road starts but have dropped six of their last seven games entering play on Friday.
Texas
The Rangers are winless in their last six games, are 0-4 in their last four home games, and are 0-4 in their last four games when playing a right-handed starter.
Prediction:
The under is 20-7-3 in Bettis’ last 30 starts, is 14-4-3 in his last 21 road outings versus a team with a losing record and is 4-0-2 in his last six road starts overall. On the other side, the under is 5-1-1 in the Rangers’ last seven games versus a right-handed starter and is 4-1-1 in their last six games versus a team with a losing record.
The Pick: Rockies/Rangers under 11
