Padres drop fifth straight
San Diego lost by a count of 9-6 Thursday night in a series opener at Colorado to drop to 33-36 overall and 15-16 on the road. Manny Machado helped lead the way as he finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Fernando Tatis Jr. went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Wil Myers was 3-for-4 with a double and a run. Matt Strahm took the loss as he allowed six earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks over 3 1/3 innings. Cal Quantrill gets the start tonight as he enters with a 1-2 record, 4.85 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 26 strikeouts over 26 innings.
Blackmon homers twice in win
Colorado picked up a 9-6 home win Thursday night over San Diego to improve to 36-32 overall and 21-13 at home. Charlie Blackmon had a big night to lead the way as he went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs. Trevor Story finished 1-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Daniel Murphy ended the contest 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jon Gray picked up the win as he gave up four earned runs on nine hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Jeff Hoffman starts tonight for the Rockies as he comes in with a 1-3 record, 8.06 record and 1.56 WHIP with 29 strikeouts over 25 2/3 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
The Padres are 9-4 in their last 13 Friday games. San Diego is 0-4 in its last four road games.
The Rockies are 4-1 in their last five Friday games. Colorado is 53-26 in its last 79 home games.
The Padres have struggled, but they should score enough here as Hoffman has struggled mightily at the MLB level. Even though Quantrill isn't going to be perfect, I'm going to take a shot that he gives five or six good enough innings before turning it over to the bullpen to finish it off. San Diego isn't a great team, but it is good enough that losing streaks like this shouldn't be commonplace.
