Pirates on seven-game slide

The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost seven straight games following a 6-5 loss at Atlanta on Thursday night. The Pirates are 30-38 on the season, 17-20 on the road and 41-26 with the over. Pittsburgh has Steven Brault on the mound today. He is 2-1 on the season with a 5.05 ERA.

The Pirates have struggled on the mound this season, posting a 5.23 team ERA with a 1.45 team WHIP. At the plate, Pittsburgh is averaging 4.35 runs per game while hitting .257 as a team. Josh Bell has been leading the team this season with 25 doubles, 19 home runs and 61 RBI. Starling Marte has added 13 doubles with 10 home runs and 33 RBI.

Marlins end losing streak

Miami had its six-game losing streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 9-0 win at home against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Marlins are now 24-42 on the season, 12-19 on the road and 33-30 with the under. Miami will have Trevor Richards take the mound today. He is 3-6 on the season with a 3.31 ERA.

The Marlins have the league’s worst offense so far, posting just 3.52 runs per game with a .236 average. They rank last in the majors with just 50 home runs on the year. On the mound, Miami has a 4.29 team ERA with a 1.32 team WHIP. Brian Anderson is leading the team with 12 doubles, seven home runs and 28 RBI. Jorge Alfaro is adding five doubles, nine home runs and 26 RBI.

MLB Betting Trends

The Pirates have lost seven straight road games and four straight series openers.

The Marlins have won 10 of their last 13 following a win, but are just 7-19 in their last 26 Friday games.

The Pirates are hoping to snap out of their losing skid, but I think it may be tough today. Richards has been pitching quite well for Miami over the last few weeks, giving up just three runs over his last 24.2 innings of work. Brault hasn’t been too bad himself, allowing only eight runs over his last five appearances, but his outings have been pretty short and I just think Pittsburgh is in too big of a funk to overcome on the road against some good pitching.

MLB Prediction: Miami Marlins -115
