Mets waste deGrom start
New York has now lost 10 of its last 11 games including both games of a series at Atlanta, dropping Wednesday afternoon’s finale by a count of 2-0. The Mets were no-hit until the seventh inning, with Jacob deGrom being the hard-luck losing pitcher as he gave up only one earned run in seven strong innings. He gave up seven hits, struck out seven and did not walk a batter. Brandon Nimmo had a double to lead the Mets offense, while Michael Conforto added a single.
D-backs edged in finale by Pirates
Arizona lost 5-4 Wednesday afternoon at home against Pittsburgh to see its five-game win streak come to a close. Zack Greinke had a subpar outing as he surrendered five earned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and four walks over 4 2/3 innings to take the loss. Jon Jay went 2-for-4 with a walk, a run and two RBIs to help lead the offense. David Peralta was 1-for-4 with a 2-run homer that gave the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead in the first before the Pirates scored four in the second and one in the fourth to take control. Ketel Marte was 2-for-4 in the loss.
Steven Matz (2-4, 3.53 ERA) will start today for the Mets, while Matt Koch (4-3, 4.20) will go for the D-backs.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The Mets are 1-8 in their last nine games following a loss. The under is 7-1 in the last eight New York games overall.
Arizona
The Diamondbacks are 16-5 in their last 21 Thursday games. The under is 6-2 in Koch’s last eight home starts.
Prediction:
New York is playing awful baseball right now and is struggling to generate offense, while Arizona’s offense has been cooking as of late and nearly generated a comeback yesterday. Matz should give the Mets a fighting chance, but I can’t see it being enough against an Arizona squad that is 21-14 at home.
