Twins upset
After taking the series opener on Tuesday, the Twins suffered a surprising 5-2 loss on Wednesday despite having Jose Berrios on the mound. Minnesota is now 29-35 overall and 12-18 on the road. The Twins are putting up 4.30 runs per game this season while allowing 4.44 per contest.
Lance Lynn makes the start for the Twins on Thursday. He is making his 13th start of the year tonight and carries a 4-4 record with a 5.08 ERA and 1.68 WHIP. Lynn has pitched a total of 62.0 innings and has 62 strikeouts with 40 walks.
Tigers bounce back
The Tigers continue to hover around that 5-games below .500 mark. They had lost two straight before beating a good pitcher on Wednesday night. Detroit is now 32-37 overall and 22-17 at home. The Tigers are putting up 4.16 runs per game this season while allowing 4.65 per contest.
Michael Fulmer gets the start for the Tigers on Thursday. Fulmer has started 13 games in 2018 and has a 2-5 record with a 4.40 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He has struggled most of the year, but is coming off a 1-run outing over seven innings against Cleveland. Fulmer has 62 strikeouts and 27 walks over 73.2 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Twins have won Lynn’s last four starts against AL Central teams, but they are just 2-7 in their last nine on the road and 2-5 in their last seven against a starter with a WHIP over 1.30.
Detroit
The Tigers are 4-1 in their last five games against a starter with a WHIP over 1.30. They are also 4-1 in Fulmer’s last five home starts against a losing team.
Prediction:
The Twins had their best pitcher up on Wednesday and came up short. I don’t feel great about them with Lynn on the mound. He hasn’t had much to offer this year and walks a lot of batters. Fulmer has been shaky as well, but we know he has ace-level stuff. He showed that against Cleveland in his last start and I think he can do it today as well.
The Pick: Detroit Tigers +105
