Padres doubled up at Giants
San Diego lost its fourth straight game Wednesday night with a 4-2 defeat at San Francisco. Eric Hosmer helped pace the Padres offense as he finished 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Manny Machado went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Josh Naylor was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Joey Lucchesi took the loss as he gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Matt Strahm will start tonight for San Diego as he enters with a 2-5 record, 4.03 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 60 1/3 innings.
Rockies crushed by Cubs
Colorado lost by a score of 10-1 Wednesday afternoon at home to drop to 35-32 overall and 20-13 at home. Chris Iannetta was 1-for-2 off the bench and drove in the lone run. David Dahl went 3-for-4 with a double. Tony Wolters finished 1-for-3 and scored a run. Antonio Senzatela took the loss as he surrendered eight runs (six earned) on eight hits over four innings, striking out two and walking four. Jon Gray will start today for the Rockies as he enters with a 5-5 record, 4.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 83 strikeouts over 78 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 7-1 in their last eight Thursday games. San Diego is 1-5 in its last six road games.
Colorado
The Rockies are 5-1 in their last six Thursday games. Colorado is 7-3 in the last 10 Gray starts.
Prediction:
San Diego is in struggle mode and it is at a disadvantage here against a Rockies team that typically plays very well at home, while coming off a bad loss Wednesday that it will want to bounce back from. Gray has had some bad luck on the mound the last couple seasons, but the raw stuff is there and he is always capable of spinning a gem. I like Colorado’s chances at a win here to send the Padres to a fifth straight loss.
