Cubs crush Rockies
Chicago finished its series Wednesday afternoon with a 10-1 victory at Colorado to improve to 38-29 overall and 14-18 on the road. The Cubs used a five-run second inning to take full control. Kyle Schwarber ended the contest 1-for-4 with a grand slam. Javier Baez was 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Carlos Gonzalez finished 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs. Cole Hamels helped his own cause as he was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Hamels threw seven shutout innings for the win as he allowed six hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Lester starts today for Chicago as he enters with a 5-4 record, 3.56 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 62 strikeouts over 65 2/3 innings.
Dodgers lose game, Seager
Los Angeles lost 5-3 Tuesday night at the Angels, while Corey Seager will be out for the foreseeable future after straining a hamstring in the game. Seager was 3-for-4 and drew a walk prior to the injury. Max Muncy led the Dodgers offense as he was 2-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs plus a walk. David Freese contributed a pinch-hit solo home run in his only at-bat. Alex Verdugo went 3-for-4 and drew a walk. Kenta Maeda took the loss as he allowed five earned runs on three hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out four and walking three. Kershaw starts tonight for LA as he comes in with a 5-1 record, 3.00 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 59 strikeouts over 66 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Chicago
The Cubs are 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Chicago is 36-17 in the last 53 Lester starts.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are 37-15 in their last 52 games overall. Los Angeles is 82-26 in the last 108 Kershaw starts.
Prediction:
The Dodgers are down a hot hitter in Seager, but they are so deep that his loss almost seems minimal as weird as that sounds. Kershaw is still a top-notch pitcher even without as dominant stuff as he used to have. With the inconsistencies of Lester and the Cubs hitters dealing with the adjustment away from the thin air of Denver, I think tonight’s game tilts heavily toward Los Angeles.
