deGrom in stellar form
Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom has been phenomenal this season when healthy, posting a 1.57 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 80 1/3 innings with 106 strikeouts. He had a minor injury in early May which limited him to five total innings in two starts, where he didn’t give up an earned run. Around that he had six starts where he worked at least seven full innings in all of them and allowed zero or one earned run. He finally had a start in which he gave up more than one run again his last time out as he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits with eight strikeouts and two walks over eight innings in a 4-1 home loss to the Yankees. Look for deGrom to once again be on top of his game this afternoon.
Siroka returns from injury
Braves highly-touted 20-year-old pitcher Michael Soroka will make his first MLB start in a month after being out with an injury. He has a 1-1 record with a 3.68 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 14 2/3 innings, striking out 15. In his last start on May 12, he gave up five runs (one earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts and one walk over 4 2/3 innings in a 10-5 win at the Marlins. In his MLB debut, Soroka threw six one-run innings at the Mets, who he will face today.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The under is 8-1 in deGrom’s last nine starts on grass. The under is 8-2 in deGrom’s last 10 starts vs. Atlanta.
Atlanta
The Braves are 7-3 in their last 10 Wednesday games. Atlanta is 10-4 in its last 14 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Prediction:
deGrom is in great form and it’s really difficult to fade him right now, especially against a rookie pitcher making his first start in a month. Atlanta might have the better team, but it doesn’t have the better pitcher in this matchup and I’m going to put my money on the visitors to rise to the occasion behind him.
