Kingery powers Phillies to win
Phillies rookie Scott Kingery hit a 3-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and the hosts never trailed Tuesday night in a 5-4 win over Colorado. Kingery also walked in the game as he was 1-for-2 and drove in four. Rhys Hoskins and Carlos Santana both walked twice and scored a run. Aaron Nola was superb on the mound as he allowed one earned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks over 6 2/3 innings to record the win. Seranthony Dominguez pitched an inning with no base runners and one strikeout for his first save.
Rockies rally falls short
Colorado scored three in the ninth before Dominguez entered and shut the door, cutting a 5-1 deficit down to 5-4. Trevor Story helped pace the Rockies as he was 2-for-4 with two runs. Gerardo Parra went 2-for-3 with a run. Tom Murphy finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jon Gray suffered the loss as he allowed four earned runs on three hits with 10 strikeouts and four walks over six innings.
Tyler Anderson (3-1, 4.81 ERA) draws the start today for the Rockies, while the Phillies are going with Nick Pivetta (4-5, 3.76).
MLB Betting Trends
Colorado
The over is 10-1-2 in the last 13 Rockies games overall. Colorado is 3-7 in its last 10 during game two of a series.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 16-5 in their last 21 home games vs. a left-handed starter. Philadelphia is 9-2 in Pivetta’s last 11 home starts.
Prediction:
All signs and trends seem to be pointing in the Phillies’ way, so I’m going to play contrarian and take the underdog Rockies. Colorado is in need of getting something going again as other teams in the NL West are playing better baseball. Pivetta is having a pretty decent season, but can be prone to having an awful outing. Anderson isn’t all that great, but getting away from Coors Field always helps. Take the underdog Rockies in this one.
