Public Betting Trends
Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list both the Royals and Reds at -105 on the money line, so there is no favorite as of now. As of this writing, 62% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Royals to beat the Reds on the moneyline. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on this game.
Reds' Romano allows five runs in loss to Rockies
Sal Romano coughed up five runs in five innings and was charged with a loss to the Rockies. It wasn't all bad as he struck out six batters against one walk and surrendered only six hits, but five of those knocks were of the extra-base variety. When he gave up contact it was hard contact. Ian Desmond touched him up for a two-run homer in the fourth inning. Romano falls to 3-7 with a 6.23 ERA and would probably have been yanked from the rotation by now if the Reds had any better options.
Royals' Kennedy solid in no-decision vs. Angels
Ian Kennedy allowed one earned run, seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision in Wednesday's road outing against the Angels. Kennedy threw 57 of his 99 pitches for strikes, throwing 17 first-pitch strikes to the 25 batters he faced. He uncorked a wild pitch, too, but he hung in there and gave his team a chance to win. It was his best outing since May 4, and perhaps the former USC standout and SoCal-born veteran was pitching with an extra gear in his old stomping grounds. He is 1-5 with a 6.59 ERA in 12 starts against the rest of the league, and 0-1 with a 1.64 ERA in two starts against the Halos.
MLB Betting Trends
The Reds are winless in their last five games versus the Royals and are 0-5 in their last five games versus Kansas City.
The Royals are 0-6 in Kennedy's last six starts and are 2-12 in his last 14 outings coming off five days of rest.
Romano and Kennedy are both capable of blowing up at any point but I still feel that this total is too high. The under is 7-2 in Romano's last nine starts coming off five days of rest and is 7-3-1 in his last 11 outings after scoring five runs or more in their previous game. The under is also 12-4 in Kennedy's last 16 starts and is 6-2 in his last eight outings overall.
The Pick: Reds/Royals under 9.5
