Padres’ Lyles hammered by Braves in last start
Jordan Lyles was tagged for eight earned runs, 11 hits and two walks with a strikeout over 4 1/3 innings in a loss against the Braves on Tuesday. Lyles threw just 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes and he was changed with a wild pitch. On a positive note, he threw first-pitch strikes to 20 of his 26 batters faced, but unfortunately he was too hittable. This laugher got to be so bad that position player Cory Spangenberg was called upon to work in the ninth inning to preserve the bullpen. Lyles is tentatively scheduled to start Monday in St. Louis, but he is a risky fantasy proposition even if he is a two-start pitcher next week.
Flathery allows six runs vs. Marlins in last start
Jack Flaherty allowed six runs – four earned – and eight hits with one walk and six strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Marlins on Wednesday. Flaherty threw just 60 of his 92 pitches for strikes, hitting a batter. His defense didn’t do him any favors, and he struggled with his location, too. He threw first-pitch strikes to just 17 of the 26 batters he faced, too. He’ll face a favorable matchup against Jordan Lyles and the Padres on Monday to kick off a two-start week. Of course, Wednesday was also supposed to be a favorable matchup.
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 5-12 in their last 17 games versus the Cardinals and have dropped 45 of their last 61 meetings with the Redbirds in St. Louis.
St. Louis
The Cardinals have won five of their last six games coming off a loss.
Prediction:
The Cardinals had a frustrating Sunday in Cincinnati but their offense is finally starting to heat up. Marcell Ozuna, Matt Carpenter and Jose Martinez are crushing the ball and they’re starting to get some contributions from Dexter Fowler. Flathery got tuned up in his last start but he should fare well against a light-hitting Padres team on Monday night. Lay the wood.
The Pick: St. Louis Cardinals -1.5
