Mariners fall
The Mariners suffered a rare loss as they suffered a 7-3 defeat by the Rays on Saturday. It was just their second loss in nine games. Seattle is now 40-24 overall and 20-12 on the road. The Mariners are putting up 4.38 runs per game on offense while allowing 4.02 per contest.
James Paxton gets the start for the Mariners on Sunday. Paxton is 5-1 on the season with a 2.95 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Paxton has allowed two runs or less in his last four starts. He has pitched a total of 82.1 innings and has 101 strikeouts with 25 walks.
Rays end skid
Tampa finally put an end to their 8-game losing streak on Saturday with the win over Seattle. The Rays are now 29-34 overall and 12-15 at home. Tampa is putting up 4.02 runs per game on offense while allowing 4.29 per contest.
Nathan Eovaldi gets the start for the Rays today. He has made two starts this season and is 1-1 with a 3.27 ERA and 0.55 WHIP. He pitched six scoreless at Oakland in his first start and then allowed four runs over five innings against the Nationals. Eovaldi has eight strikeouts and two walks over his 11.0 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Seattle
The Mariners have won 19 of their last 26 overall and they have also won five of Paxton’s last six road starts.
Tampa
The Rays are just 1-4 in their last five games against a left-handed starter and six of their last seven against AL West opponents.
Prediction:
Seattle has looked good for the past few weeks and I won’t let Saturday’s loss get in my head about them. They seem dialed in with their pitching right now while their hitting is giving the pitching the support it needs. Eovaldi is still working his way back from a major injury, so I don’t see him going deep into the game and the Tampa bullpen hasn’t been sharp in recent weeks.
The Pick: Seattle Mariners -160
