Orioles’ Cobb strikes out seven for second win of season
Alex Cobb limited the Mets to one run and two hits over six innings to earn his second win Tuesday. He fanned a season-high seven. This makes five quality starts in seven tries for Cobb. He’s still an ugly 2-7 with a 6.19 ERA for the season, but he should be a useful AL-only guy going forward. He’d be more interesting in mixed leagues on nearly any other team.
Blue Jays’ Estrada excellent in no-decision vs. Yankees
Marco Estrada whiffed six and was charged with just one run over six frames but took a no-decision Tuesday in the Blue Jays’ loss to the Yankees.
The outing was arguably Estrada’s best all season and certainly his best over the last month, as he permitted six hits and no walks to go along with his six punchouts.
Manager John Gibbons elected to pull Estrada with the Jays up 1-0 after he gave up a single and hit a batter to start off the seventh. Seung Hwan Oh then promptly walked the next batter and served up a grand slam to Miguel Andujar. Still, while it ended poorly, it was an encouraging step forward for the veteran righty. Estrada might be worth streaming Sunday at home versus the Orioles.
MLB Betting Trends
Baltimore
The Orioles are 31-64 in their last 95 games played at Rogers Centre and have dropped five of their last six games versus the Blue Jays overall.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are a perfect 6-0 in Estrada’s last six home starts versus the Orioles and are 4-1 in his last five outings versus Baltimore overall.
Prediction:
I realize the trends above don’t paint a positive picture for Baltimore but I’m going to take a shot on the Orioles on Sunday. For starters, it’s difficult to sweep a team in a four-game series, especially when that opponent is a division rival. Complacency sets in and the team on the verge of being swept theoretically plays with more desperation. Cobb has pitched better of late and it’s not as if the Orioles have been destroyed this series. Despite losing three straight in Toronto, every game has been competitive so I’m taking my shot on Sunday.
The Pick: Baltimore Orioles +115
