Padres take two of three from Braves
San Diego won its home series versus Atlanta Wednesday by winning the finale, 3-1. Cory Spangenberg led the way by going 2-for-4 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Jose Pirela finished 2-for-4 with a run. Manuel Margot was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Jose Castillo threw 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts to earn the win. The Padres fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first, but scored twice in the bottom of the second and added an insurance run in the eighth.
Marlins unable to complete sweep at St. Louis
Miami stunned the host Cardinals by winning the first two games of the series by scores of 7-4 and 11-3. But the finale on Thursday went St. Louis’ way as it downed the Marlins, 4-1. Justin Bour went 3-for-4 with a double and the lone RBI as Miami trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth inning. The Cardinals added a run in each the sixth and seventh for insurance. Trevor Richards was saddled with the loss as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks over five innings.
Drawing the start today for the Padres is Eric Lauer (2-3, 6.82 ERA), while the Marlins are going with Caleb Smith (4-6, 4.03).
MLB Betting Trends
San Diego
The Padres are 5-1 in their last six games vs. the NL East. San Diego is 4-1 in its last five games overall.
Miami
Thw Marlins are 8-2 in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a losing record. Miami is 3-9 in its last 12 games overall.
Prediction:
Smith was poor in his last start, but has been a bright spot for the Fish thus far this season. Lauer has struggled, but is dealing with a porous Marlins offense that came to life for two games in St. Louis but reverted to its usual form on Thursday. I can’t bring myself to take either of these teams on the moneyline tonight, but I’m going to go with the under as I don’t see either of these offenses putting together many runs.
MLB DAILY PREDICTION: PADRES/MARLINS UNDER 7.5
