Brewers offense struggles at Cleveland
The Milwaukee offense only mustered a total of three runs in two games at the Indians, falling 3-2 and 3-1. In Wednesday’s finale, the Brewers managed nine hits but only turned one of them into a run on an RBI single from Travis Shaw that gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top of third inning. Christian Yelich went 2-for-4 with a double and scored the lone run. Lorenzo Cain and Erik Kratz also finished 2-for-4. Chase Anderson took the loss as he gave up three earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 4 1/3 innings.
Phillies drop final two at Cubs
After winning the series opener, Philadelphia lost the last two games of the series at Chicago including Thursday afternoon’s 4-3 finale. After tying the score at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning, the Phillies surrendered three in the bottom half. Philadelphia scored two more in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to one, but had no more offense in it the rest of the way. Scott Kingery helped pace the offense with a two-run double. Andrew Knapp was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks. Carlos Santana had an RBI single and drew a walk. Nick Pivetta took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts and a walk in five innings of work.
Jhoulys Chacin (4-1, 3.39 ERA) will start today for the Brewers, while Philadelphia is going with Vince Velasquez (4-6, 3.82).
MLB Betting Trends
Milwaukee
The Brewers are 8-1 in Chacin’s nine last starts. The under is 49-24-1 in the last 74 Milwaukee road games.
Philadelphia
The under is 7-2 in the last nine Phillies home games. Philadelphia is 23-10 in its last 33 home games.
Prediction:
While the Phillies are only 13-18 on the road this season, they are 19-9 at home. Velasquez can be downright filthy when he’s on, although he’s inconsistent. I’m going to bank on him having his good stuff tonight. Milwaukee has been solid at 19-14 on the road, but with the offense struggling as of late I’ll go with the Phillies here as reasonably priced favorites.
