Cole continues stellar season
Houston right-hander Garrett Cole has proven to be a phenomenal offseason acquisition as he lowered his ERA to 2.16 and improved to 7-1 on the season Thursday night with a 5-2 win at the Rangers. Cole allowed one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Alex Bregman was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two runs scored to help pace the offense. Jose Altuve finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Evan Gattis ended his night 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Marwin Gonzalez was 2-for-4.
Choo has multi-hit game
Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo had a two-hit night in the loss as he had a pair of singles plus a walk in four at-bats, scoring one run. Adrian Beltre and Robinson Chirinos both had a hit and an RBI. Isiah Kiner-Falefa had a hit and scored the other Texas run. Cole Hamels allowed five earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 7 1/3 innings to take the loss.
Justin Verlander (7-2, 1.24 ERA) gets the start today for Houston, while Doug Fister (1-6, 4.13) goes for the Rangers.
MLB Betting Trends
Houston
The Astros are 37-17 in their last 54 Friday games. The under is 13-6-2 in the last 21 Houston games on Friday.
Texas
The Rangers are 1-7 in their last eight home games versus Houston. Texas is 4-10 in the last 14 meetings.
Prediction:
Verlander is too good to bet against here. Even in a hitter’s park, he should be able to ease his way through the Rangers lineup. And I don’t trust Fister. While the moneyline is steep, take a shot at the runline bet for a better payout without having to bet a boatload.
