A’s blow lead, lose on road
Oakland blew a 7-1 lead on the road Wednesday night in a 10-9 defeat at the Angels to fall to 30-31 overall and 12-16 on the road. Robbie Grossman helped pace the offense as he finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. Jurickson Profar ended the contest 3-for-5 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs. Marcus Semien was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBIs. Lou Trivino took the loss as he gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and no walks over one inning of relief. Mike Fiers will get the start tonight for the A’s as he comes in with a 4-3 record, 4.78 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 47 strikeouts over 69 2/3 innings.
Garneau wins it for Angels
Dustin Garneau hit a game-winning RBI ground rule double in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night to send Los Angeles to a thrilling 10-9 home victory over Oakland. The Angels came back from a 7-1 deficit and then trailed again 9-8 before tying it in the bottom of the eighth and winning it an inning later. It was the only at-bat for Garneau after entering the contest off the bench. Mike Trout helped lead LA as he was 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Tommy La Stella went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and three runs scored. Shohei Ohtani finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and four RBIs. Hansel Robles picked up the win in relief as he gave up one hit with one strikeout and one walk in 1 1/3 scoreless frames. Tyler Skaggs draws the start tonight for the Angels as he enters with a 4-5 record, 4.50 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 55 strikeouts over 54 innings of work.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The Athletics are 7-1 in their last eight road games. Oakland is 4-1 in its last five Thursday games.
Los Angeles
The Angels are 6-2 in their last eight games versus the AL West. Los Angeles is 17-6 in its last 23 home games versus a team with a losing road record.
Prediction:
Fiers has been pretty sharp since his no-hitter and the A’s have been solid on the road as of late, aside from last night’s meltdown. I like Oakland at plus money here and think they can get to Skaggs, who it saw earlier this season and are familiar with over the past few seasons.
