A’s Mengden strong again in win over Rays
Daniel Mengden took a shutout into the ninth only to give up three runs in eight-plus innings Thursday in a win over the Rays. The A’s gave the sizzling Mengden a shot at back-to-back shutouts, but he gave up two singles and a double to start the ninth before being lifted. It resulted in him allowing three runs for the first time in May and just the second time in nine starts. It actually might have cost him AL pitcher of the month honors; he would have had the same 0.86 ERA for May as Justin Verlander had he come out after eight. Now he’s at 1.51.
Rangers’ Colon lit up by Angels in last start
Bartolo Colon was tagged for six runs in three innings by the Angels on Friday. Colon has given up 12 runs in his last three starts, taking his ERA from 2.82 to 4.21. He’ll probably be over 5.00 before too long.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A’s are now 12-6 in their last 17 games against the Rangers after losing 7-4 on Tuesday night in Arlington.
Texas
The under is 5-3 in the last seven meetings between these two teams in Texas and is 20-9-2 in the last 30 meetings overall.
Prediction:
I love the A’s to rebound in this spot, assuming their bull pen doesn’t get rocked like it did on Tuesday night. The A’s are 4-0 in Mengden’s last four starts, are 6-1 in his last seven road outings and have won five in a row when he starts on the road versus a team with a losing record.
The Pick: Oakland A’s -130
