Bruce homers twice in win
Jay Bruce led Philadelphia to a 9-6 victory Tuesday night at San Diego in his first start with his new club. Bruce finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and six RBIs. He is in line for an expanded role after outfielder Andrew McCutchen was lost for the season Monday night following a torn ACL. Maikel Franco contributed a pinch-hit solo home run. Scott Kingery was 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and two RBIs. J.T. Realmuto finished 3-for-5 with two runs. Jerad Eickhoff picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Jake Arrieta will start this afternoon as he comes in with a 5-5 record, 3.96 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 62 strikeouts over 75 innings.
Paddack hit hard
San Diego lost by a count of 9-6 at home Tuesday night against Philadelphia to drop to 31-30 overall and 16-17 at home. Franmil Reyes helped pace the Padres offense by going 2-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs. Eric Hosmer finished 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Greg Garcia went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Chris Paddack suffered the loss as he allowed sx runs (five earned) on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks over 4 1/3 innings. Can Quantrill will start today for San Diego as he enters with a 1-2 record, 5.14 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 21 innings.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 23-7 in their last 30 games versus a pitcher with a WHIP greater than 1.30. Philadelphia is 2-5 in its last seven road games.
San Diego
The Padres are 9-3 in their last 12 road games. San Diego is 3-6 in its last nine home games versus the Phillies.
Prediction:
Bruce was awesome last night and the Phillies will need continued production from him in the wake of losing McCutchen. Paddack came in with great numbers and the Phillies pounded him, so they should do well in hitting a much easier opponent in Quantrill today. Arrieta is a seasoned veteran who usually does a good job at limiting damage. I’m taking Philadelphia here on getaway day.
