Phillies’ Eflin crushed in second straight start
Zach Eflin allowed five earned runs, seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over four innings in a road loss against the Dodgers on Wednesday. Eflin threw just 50 of his 78 pitches for strikes, serving up a pair of homers to Max Muncy and Matt Kemp in the third inning. Eflin was 1-0 with a 0.71 ERA and 13 strikeouts across 12 2/3 innings over his first two outings, but he is 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA across the past three appearances. While he has racked up 29 strikeouts over 26 innings to date, that’s about the only thing to like about the right-hander from a fantasy perspective.
Cubs’ Hendricks allows two runs in loss to Pirates
Kyle Hendricks surrendered two runs over five innings and was charged with a loss to the Pirates on Wednesday. He served up a solo home run to Josh Harrison in the first inning and then gave up another run on a sacrifice fly by Gregory Polanco in the second. He wasn’t fooling anyone as he managed just one strikeout on the evening. He falls to 4-4 with a fine 3.19 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through 11 starts. He will climb the bump to face the Phillies on Tuesday.
MLB Betting Trends
Philadelphia
The Phillies are 1-6 in their last seven games played at Wrigley Field and are 4-9 in their last 13 games versus the Cubs overall.
Chicago
The Cubs are 4-0 in their last four games and are 5-1 in their last six games coming off a win.
Prediction:
The over has been a great bet when these two teams met but I don’t trust a struggling and banged-up Philadelphia offense to contribute enough to push the score over the betting total. Hendricks should be fine against the Phillies and while Eflin has been knocked around in his last two starts I’m trusting that he’ll pitch well enough to keep the score in check.
MLB Prediction: Phillies/Cubs under 8
