A’s Manaea knocked around by Rays in last start
Sean Manaea allowed four earned runs, five hits and a walk with three strikeouts over five innings in a loss against Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Manaea threw just 64 of his 95 pitches for strikes, as his location was a bit off. He also hit a batter while struggling with a game score of 43. The southpaw was in beast mode in April, posting a 4-1 record with a 1.80 ERA in five starts, including a no-hitter. However, May has been a completely different story as he is 1-4 with a 7.18 ERA across six starts, yielding four or more runs in five of those outings. He’ll look to get untracked in his next scheduled start next Tuesday in Texas.
Rangers’ Moore shaky in his first start back from disabled list
Matt Moore (knee) allowed five runs – four earned – and eight hits with two walks and six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision. Moore missed the past 11 days due to a sore right knee, and he looked like he was a little bit rusty in this one. While he didn’t take the loss, he is still just 1-5 with a 7.85 ERA through 47 innings. Moore remains useful only in the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues at this point. His next scheduled start is set for Tuesday against the Athletics.
MLB Betting Trends
Oakland
The A’s are 6-2 in Manaea’s last eight starts versus the Rangers and are 12-5 in their last 17 games versus Texas overall.
Texas
The Rangers are 1-4 in Moore’s last five home starts, are 1-4 in his last five outings against the American League West, and are 13-27 in their last 40 home games.
Prediction:
I hate that this total is so high tonight but it’s high for a reason. Manaea has looked right in a while and Moore is one of the most hittable pitchers in baseball. The over is 6-1 in Moore’s last seven starts, is 4-1 in his last five home outings and has cashed in four of the Rangers’ last five home games versus a team with a winning road record. The A’s can swing the sticks and they pack power. We have two struggling pitchers starting in a hitter-friendly park on a hot night. I’ll take the over.
MLB Prediction: A’s/Rangers over 10.5
