Yankees unable to complete doubleheader sweep
A solo home run by Giancarlo Stanton highlighted the Yankees’ effort in the second end of Monday’s doubleheader at the Tigers, but New York eventually lost 4-2. It was the 13th home run of the season by Stanton. Brett Gardner finished the game 1-for-5 with an RBI triple. Miguel Andujar went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Clint Frazier went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk. Domingo German dropped to 0-4 as he allowed four earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks over 6 2/3 innings.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Luis Severino settled down after giving up a first inning run as he ended up throwing eight strong innings. He surrendered two runs (one earned) on four hits with 10 strikeouts and no walks. After the Tigers scored two in the ninth, Aroldis Chapman came on and recorded the final out via strikeout to pick up his 14th save in the 7-4 win. A six-run fourth inning sparked the triumph with Greg Bird hitting a solo home run and Austin Romine hitting a 3-run homer. Gleyber Torres also hit a home run an inning earlier.
Jays double up host Tigers
Toronto is also coming off a series at Detroit, snapping a five-game losing streak with an 8-4 win on Sunday. Aaron Sanchez picked up the win as he allowed one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and three walks over six innings. Justin Smoak led the offense as he went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Randal Grichuk finished 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two runs and three RBIs. Aledmys Diaz was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
CC Sabathia (2-1, 3.73 ERA) will start tonight for the Yankees, while Marco Estrada (2-6, 5.68) takes his turn in the rotation for Toronto.
MLB Betting Trends
New York
The over is 8-2 in the last 10 Yankees games on Tuesday. Toronto is 10-1 in Estrada’s last 11 starts versus New York.
Toronto
The Blue Jays are 10-3 in their last 13 games on Tuesdays. Toronto is 1-8 in its last nine home games.
Prediction:
The Yankees are going to come in fatigued, while Toronto had Monday off. Although the Jays are only 12-17 at home this season and Estrada has struggled mightily, his history of success against New York intrigues me. You can do worse than a +150 underdog at home against a tired team. Yanks slugger Aaron Judge is also out of sorts right now as he set an MLB record with eight strikeouts in Monday’s doubleheader, so perhaps Estrada can continue to take advantage of his timing being off.
